Yet Another Delay

I'm beginning to feel like a broken record. Every time I have an appointment with Dr. Furie, I tell folks that is when my surgery will be scheduled. And, every time I actually see Dr. Furie, he has a reason not to schedule my surgery.

I went to see said doc yesterday, fully expecting to schedule my surgery for next week, and was foiled yet again by the good doctor. No, I didn't punch him in the face like I announced I would. He just wants me to see another doctor -- one who has performed my special kind of hip replacement surgery 100s of times.

Okay. I get that. Dr. Minter will work with Dr. Furie on my custom acetabulum cup -- some kind of thing they will make once they've opened me up. Mine is a special case, not your normal everyday hip replacement, so special things need to be done for me.

One thing Dr. Furie said that I will be holding on to until my surgery finally is scheduled is that "is what we need to do to get you back to normal."

Normal? You mean I'll actually get there some day?

Okay, I can wait a little longer for normal.

So, sometime before Thanksgiving, folks. I'll keep you posted.

You're a saint. I think I'd be crying by now. But, it does sound like they want to do this thing right.

I'll keep my toes crossed (need my fingers for knitting) for date, sooner than later.

Which Dr Minter? There is one in metro Atlanta that has an excellent rep.

Um, hate to tell ya this but "normal"? Maybe your hip but not you!

ducking balls of yarn being chucked at me

Well, crap. Here's to normal, hon. I'm keeping my knitting needles crossed for you.

That bites. But, I guess its better to wait and make sure the time is right then to undergo multiple surgeries to correct what didn't go right on the first surgery. They never did install a zipper on you!

Have to agree with Gotta Knit, WHEN were you ever normal?? ;-)

Okay, okay: My LEG will get back to normal.

Thanks for the good thoughts!

Specialists are a good thing. I'd rather wait and see someone that does this all the time than someone who only does it occasionally. Hang in there, they'll get you fixed up, but normal is over rated anyway...

I second (seventh) what the rest of your pals are saying. Best to see the specialist and get it done right. However, I admit to hollering a good, long, loud "FUCK" when I read that it was being put off again. I also agree with the group about the normalcy thing...I look forward to you having a normal leg. I will leave it at that. :)
